Workshops
Learning the moves is the first stepping stone in learning to dance.
But it really is the starting point and not the destination.
Being able to express yourself through dance in a Musical manner is both a challenge and a passion, and it doesn’t matter what stage you are in your dancing - you always want to reach that next level!
These workshops are designed to help you explore the musicality element of dancing and to gain insights and understanding that will help to progress your dancing, and encourage you to think and dance beyond the moves alone.
Full Timetable of Events
Saturday 1st of September
| 12.30pm to 2.30pm | Musicality Rocks | This workshop aims to help you understand and interpret the music that you dance to, so that even if you have never heard a track before, you can make intelligent, musical decisions whilst dancing to it. |
| 3.00pm to 5.00pm | 12 Bars of Gold | This workshop will encourage you to listen to, analyse and interpret 12 bar blues. You will be looking for patterns that will enable you to anticipate and prepare for the musical breaks.You will then put your knowledge into action as you work on the timing involved in hitting those breaks on the dance floor |
| 5.30pm to 7.30pm | Give Me a Break | The focus of this workshop will be to encourage you to explore the 16 bar structure that is the basis of a lot of pop music. By understanding the structure you will start to discover a new layer in modern pop music that has a wealth of opportunity for breaks that you may not have found before. |
| 8.00pm to 1.30am | Mariachi Party Night | Time to Dance!! |
Sunday 2nd of September
| 11.00am to 3.00pm | Off the Beaten Track | This practical workshop focuses on incorporating musicality into your dancing. Instead of dancing every track to the beat - why not come off the beaten track and try dancing to the instruments…. |
| 3.00pm to 7.00pm | Sunday T-Jive | Multiple DJs supplying us with some smooth grooves in a 4-hour T-Jive session, where everyone is welcome. Why not use it as an opportunity to put all you have learned into practise and hone those new skills. |
