The focus of this workshop will be to encourage you to explore the 16 bar structure that is the basis of a lot of pop music. By understanding the structure you will start to discover a new layer in modern pop music that has a wealth of opportunity for breaks that you may not have found before.

This workshop will show you some of the rules, let you hear what to listen out for then get you up on the floor as soon as possible. Once we get on the floor, we use your moves to hit the breaks

“Big-Up the Breaks”
Maybe you know the rules of music, maybe you know where to expect breaks, mini breaks, choruses, etc… but what then??

This workshop will show you some of the rules, let you hear what to listen out for then get you up on the floor as soon as possible. Once we get on the floor, we use your moves to hit the breaks. We then give you new, exciting moves especially for breaks, we talk about silence, about wiggles, eye contact, etc..

Once we give you the moves, and what to look out for, we then give you filler moves just in case you happen to not know exactly when the break is coming… we will also look at covers and different ways of hitting the break, of doing dips and drops, of emphasising the silence within the song…

So, we learn music, we learn moves, we learn how to hit the breaks, we learn fillers to help our timing, we learn different approaches to dips and drops, and we learn to have even more fun with our dancing…

Mariachi is bracing itself for March… After a hugely successful Rock Bottoms, we are getting it together for 3, yes THREE, events in march - this has now become 2 with the chance 2 dance comp moving to later in the year

Sat 14th sees us in Oakham on the east side of the country with Sara White’s Jive Nites. Full Phat Mariachi… on the hr experimental tracks… the whole gamut of genres, tempi, and some of the best dancers in the country…

Sun 22nd sees us in Oxford for Jive + doing another musicality workshop, then a lovely Mariachi Lite set…
