Mariachi Weekender

April 29, 2011 8:30 pmtoMay 2, 2011 6:00 am

OK, peeps… just to let you know: if you are planning on coming to Mariachi dances, I would strongly recommend you prebook your place. We are close enough to a sell out that we have concerns that anyone just turning up on the night may get turned away, and I would hate for that to happen… remember, we are dancing till 6.00 am and U can get an after midnight pass for just £10 if you want to finish your night with some great dances… We still have spaces on the workshops, including the fabulous Jenny & Ricardo teaching tango for jivers!! To secure your place email us at bookings@mariachi.info

OK folks… just to let U know we are now operating a waiting list for single follows. Please email me if U are interested. Men and couples can still book workshops and dances. Some workshops are still available to single ladies, please email for details… Thank U.

We have some of the finest weekender DJs in one place at one time. Each famed for their sensibilities, for their ability to take a dance floor on a journey, for their great taste in music and for their passion for dance. For 2 nights, these DJs will work together to take you on a journey as we dance through to 6.00 a.m. That’s right, 6.00 a.m. creating that weekender feeling with intense blues, great dancers, and lost hours on the dance floor.

Dance Demon, Scotland’s original Bluesman; Revdrop, the UK’s most Passionate DJ; Blueshoes, with the tunes and moves to match his shoes; CJ, one of the UK’s most innovative and reputed DJs and Pete Shilito will be taking you on 2 journeys. The Saturday night will be prominently Mariachi with Passion thrown in getting bluesier as we descend into the wee small hours in standard time slots. The Sunday will see the DJs interacting with each other: each DJ working with all the others, there will always be 2 DJs playing at the same time, alternating tracks giving a unique experience where the dancers lead the DJs in their song choice building the atmosphere up and up and up. Only once you have experienced this will you understand, but those who have experienced it will be guaranteed to be back!!

Saturday’s workshops are aimed at two levels of dancer: early intermediate and intermediate plus,..loosely speakin’; The first set of workshops are aimed at those just setting into more expressive dance and who want to build up their confidence as well as their technique:

13:30 – 15:00: Transition into Expressive Dancing – Revdrop/Judith
15:15 – 16:45: Introduction to Dips & Drops – Revdrop/Judith
17:00-18:30: Connection and Frame – CJ/Pauline

The second set of workshops are aimed at people comfortable with expressive dance and wanting to hone their techniques and introduce something a little special into their dance.

13:00-15:00: Lifts and Mini Aerials - Blueshoes/Faye
15:15-16:45: Advanced Musicality – CJ/Pauline
17:00-18:30: Some Extra Flash – Blueshoes/Faye

The Sunday workshop timetable is finally here:

13.30-15.00: Tango for Jivers - Jenny & Ricardo
15.15-16.45: Body Leading and Movement - Jenny & Ricardo
17.00-18.30: Jive Diva Bev Lewis and CJ will run concurrent stye workshops for singularly for women and men, respectively.

In addition to these workshops from 12.00 til 16.30, there will be time set aside for private lessons with Revdrop, Blueshoes, Faye, Pauline Roddy, Bev Lewis or CJ at £15 for 30 mins. These privates are available on a first come first served basis and can be booked by emailing us at bookings@mariachi.info

Saturday and Sunday nights are both 8.00pm to 6.00pm. On both Sunday and Monday morning we will be serving breakfast at 6am for the survivors!!! Saturday will start off with Mariachi and Passion and then descend into sultry blues… Sunday night we will have 2 DJ’s constantly on duty tagging all the way to 6am, keeping the DJ’s on their finest form and the floor at its best…

Friday, we will pop into Edinburgh and enjoy dancing to a live band, the Flavours at the Jamhouse.
For those joining us from afar We have struck a deal with a local hotel only £20pppn sharing. Email us at info@mariachi.info for details.
