Juke Joint with Aaron Fluff Saunders
Blues dancing is all about expressing yourself to the music you hear. Juke Joints were the bars in the U.S. where people went to listen & dance to live music. We’ll look at the classic jukin’ steps to get you into the rhythm of the music allowing you to explore & play with the music.
3.15pm – 4.45pm
Beginners Musicality with CJ
The best dances incorporate 3 things: you, your partner and the music. This workshop will look at music, opening our ear to see how best we can incorporate the music into our dance.
Flash Moves with Frank Blueshoes Newton
Spice up your dance repertoire with some big and dynamic moves!
5.00pm – 6.30pm
How to Tag & Steal with Frank Blueshoes Newton
Tagging is two leads sharing one follow, stealing is nicking someone else’s partner - we’ll show you how!
Riffing and the Art of Conversation with Aaron Fluff Saunders
Great dance moments happen when we feel inspired by the person we’re dancing with. Riffing is all about playing off your partner, taking inspiration from their dance moves and building on them. And remember conversation is a two way street.
Sunday
1.30pm – 3.30pm
Intermediate Dips & Drops with Frank Blueshoes Newton
For those who already do dips and drops and want to learn something a little different.
Micro blues with Aaron Fluff Saunders
Micro blues is the essence of connection, if we took out all the extraneous noise in dancing what we’d be left with is the dialogue of connection between two dancers. In this class we’ll see how the most subtle movements can be lead & followed & learn to really tune in to our partner.
3.15pm – 4.45pm
Ballrooming with Aaron Fluff Saunders
Ballroom blues is a more lyrical style & is great for more subtle music. Here we’ll look at moving as a partnership around the dance floor & teaching you some cool tricks like lunges & leg flicks.
Advanced Musicality with CJ
Looking further into the trinity of dance; opening ourselves to the detail in the music and incorporating the music into our dance in order to bring out that detail in our movement.
5.00pm – 6.30pm
Men’s Style with CJ
It is often said that “leads are the frame, follows are the picture.” With just a few nice touches, we can give our ladies the best possible frame to further enhance her picture.
Ladies Style with Pauline Roddy
For ladies looking for a little more to bring to your dance: this workshop is guaranteed to have you feeling and looking amazing!! To stick with tradition, we shall put it all together into a cheeky little routine at the end of the day! Be prepared for laughter!
6.45pm- 7.45pm
Portland Style dance Lab:
A peer-review workshop based on the infamous Portland Blues Lab, as moderated by CJ. With facilitation dancers will rotate round the room giving and receiving guided feedback specific to their own dance. This will be MJ based, but will incorporate music of different styles so dance forms will be agreed within each rotation: just bring what U have to the party!!!
