I often am amazed by the experiences I get to enjoy whilst DJin Mariachi… The oportunity to watch dancers come out their shells, see dancers improve right in front of me, witness good dancers flying by the seat of their pants to tunes just screaming to be danced to… Sometimes I find the words to describe what I see, sometimes I am lost…

After the weekend I’ve just had, all I can share with you is…

WOW!!!!

What a weekend!!!! Great dances, good times… watching people walk through the door knowing they should be at LUX weekender is always a bonus!!!

Anyway… up and coming:

We will be visiting Dr Chill in Wetherby, come the end of July… Then Rosyth in Fife for the Scottish tea dance on 2nd August.

Later in August we’ll be visiting “Up Norff” (in an English kinda way) on 22nd followed by another trip to Sunny Oxford on 23rd.

As U know, we have 3 Mariachi experiences… Full Phat, Lite and Blues… Am SOOOOOOO looking forward to next Mariachi session… the blues…. with a little balck tie to add spice…

Yep, Sat 27t June we have Black Tie Blues with Jivenation. What a peach iof an event… dinner, dancing till 2.00 a.m. 2 rooms, Mariachi Blues.. what more could U ask?!?

Sunday has a musicality workshop in London… we demyth music structure, teach where to predict breaks then what to do when we get there!!!

The Mannish Boy will be DJing from 6 through to coaches {officially 10, but play it right and….. } in a Mariachi Blues tea dance…. Bluest Blues, Sloe Gin mixed with a little Witche’s Brew may well bring on a Heart Attack and Vine… U hear me???

In Oxford, we will have 2 rooms: Jon Brett, live music and the Full Phat with extra cream Mariachi room…

We’ve been through March.. we survived… more than that, we danced!!!!

Oakham was amazing… the Full Phat experience… experimental tracks… and 6 hours of intensity on the floor.

Morris and Judith’s Birthday Bash redefined the word “Party”. It was fabulous and we managed to gain a few more converts to the Mariachi cause… WOW!! This expressive dancing lark kinda catches on… ;~)

Oxford was tremendous, too… Mariachi Lite has a slightly more chilled feel.. still intense, but more relaxed in tempo, in feel… and still some supreme daning to watch..

So, now… we’re looking towards April and May… Keep an eye on the group as we have a couple of very nice dates to announce in the next week, or so…

Mariachi is bracing itself for March… After a hugely successful Rock Bottoms, we are getting it together for 3, yes THREE, events in march - this has now become 2 with the chance 2 dance comp moving to later in the year

Sat 14th saw us in Oakham… and what a night we had. The playlist will be published very soon… Great dancers, an amazing vibe.. and good craic as well!!!
Playing Alex Fox’s “Galleguita” was brilliant… cutting the volume at the end of each musical paragraph to hear the dancers all stamp in time with their feet… Priceless!!

Alvin Lee’s “The Bluest Blues” is my track of the moment… I had so many people ask what it was… FABULOUS track… try it out… let me know what U think..

We’re delighted to be involved in Morris’ and Judith’s celebrations on Fri 20th… Some good tunage already been looked out.

Sun 22nd sees us in Oxford for Jive + doing another musicality workshop, then a lovely Mariachi Lite set…

Sat 14th sees us in Oakham on the east side of the country with Sara White’s Jive Nites. Full Phat Mariachi… on the hr experimental tracks… the whole gamut of genres, tempi, and some of the best dancers in the country…

Sun 22nd sees us in Oxford for Jive + doing another musicality workshop, then a lovely Mariachi Lite set…

Slowly but surely the word is spreading, as is the Mariachi net!!! Already, there are bookings in 2009 and we are looking at new places to hold Mariachi…

The madness that was Rock Botoms has been and gone… some great Mariachi Blues sets taking us well into silly o’clock (after 5) so next comes a Full Phat Mariachi with slightly more reasonable timings in Banbury!!

Jive+ are hosting Mariachi, once again, and i’s gonna be a peach… Have a look at the event for details. We’ll be doing a class, so if U’ve never done Mariachi before or are a little aprehensive about how to tackle the expressive elements within the tunes… come and take part in the fun class, and have it opened up to U in easy steps…

As well as that, we are involved in the Christmas Ball on 21st Dec for Ceroc Shrewsbury, too…

With regret, Mariachi and Ceroc Worcester Utopia announce that they will be unable to go ahead with their collaberation on this occasion. However, we both look forward to working together in the near future.

First off, I would like to thank Simon and Nicole for their fab class in May… aimed at connection and frame, it covered style, connection, frame, musicality, improvisation, etc… It was very well recieved.

Mariachi at SP was an interesting beastie!! Soooooo many people commented on how they had the “dance of the weekend” to a Mariachi tune, it also proved a challenge for some dancers… ALL debate welcome below…

The good thing is that within Mariachi: MJ, tango, WCS, and latin dancers are all catered for with tracks that are either pure MJ at it’s best or crossover… so seeing tango and MJ, or WCS and MJ, to the same songs is not uncommon… So, bring what U have: and enjoy!!!
