Workshop: Expression Toolbox 91

February 6, 2011
1:00 pmto5:00 pm

Mariachi Workshop Expression Toolbox 91: Slow music, up close and personal… Words that can strike fear into a dancer yet to encounter these circumstances!!

This workshop is aimed at introducing the concepts of dancing to slow music, without doing what is affectionately termed “treacle jive”. Learning that there is much more to dancing to slow tracks than just dancing slow, this workshop will arm you to the teeth with hints, tip, techniques and the confidence to tackle even the slowest tracks with some style and panache…

Often, dancing to slower music will incorporate “Blues”, “Up close and personal” and other phrases springing to mind. Again, mindful of beginners and experienced dancers within these areas, we will look at nice moves, movements and moments to add string after string after string to your expressive dance bow!!

With a multi layered workshop offering much to newcomers and experienced dancers alike, we look forward to you joining us…

Mariachi Tea Dance: Rosyth Masonic

December 5, 2010
6:00 pmto10:00 pm

The last Mariachi Tea Dance in Scotland this year, we are going out with a bang… Let’s see how long we can extend the evening…

Looking to extend beyond the 10.00 finish, we will have all the usual suspects in attendance: cake, expressive music, a beautiful dance floor, cake, great dancers, a warm welcome, cake, the On The Hour Experimental Track, and all the usual little extras U have come to enjoy at Mariachi…

Any requests or suggestions for the OTHET??

A clique-free zone, we will be playing expressive tunage for those who can Modern Jive (ceroc, leroc, lejive, etc), Blues, Tango, WCS and maybe even a Salsa moment or two…

As it’s the last one of the year… we have decided that if U prebook with someone who is a Mariachi virgin, when you both arrive, U will gte in free!! So, the only Q left to ask is this:

Just which of your friends is special enough to U that U would share the Mariachi experience with them?!?!?

We look forward to seeing U then…

    Workshop and Tea Dance

    August 1, 2010
    1:00 pmto10:00 pm

Workshop starting at one, we are looking forward to really enhancing your dance experience by looking at frame, connection, footwork and micro leading to bring subtlety and nuance into your dance style…

Come six o’clock, the nonsense begins with all U’ve come to love and expect about Mariachi Tea Dances… chilled flavour of intense music, cake, tea, cake, great dancers, cake, expressive music, cake, coffee and the like… oh, have we mentioned there will be cake??

Call CJ on 07711354067 or email bookings@mariachi.info to prebook your place…

    Oh what an Easter!!!

Am not quite sure where to start with the event that has just passed…

The workshops were well received and Frank & Faye played a stormer teaching dips & drops and also some social aerials… CJ & Yli were teaching musicality, expression and some blues which again were great to see on the dancefloor…

All of which brings me… to the dances…. Saturday was just awesome, with Blueshoes bringing his own take on Mariachi… Some classic tunes, we’d never heard at Mariachi before, some favourites and some new friends we’ve been dying to meet…

And then there was the Sunday… CJ doing Mariachi Blues… Morris showing us his PASSION… alternate tracks… reacting to the other DJ, their sensibilities, the floor, the dancers, the mood of the moment… It was fantastic to react to each tune Morris played… and some of the feedback has been astounding for both nights.

Setlists and feedback comments will be on the website www.mariachi.info as soon as poss….

Until the next time in June….

Well, 2010 got off to a bumper start!!!

Well, 2010 got off to a bumper start!!!

Our bottoms were well and truly rocked with late night Mariachi Blues going through to 5.00 a.m. and beyond!! Just don’t mention the pyjama class!!!

And the rest of January is looking great as we have Jive Plus’ “Thank Friday It’s Freestyle” event on this Friday Jan 22. Aimed at intermediate and above dancers, the class will be conceptual as opposed to just straight moves. After the class, we will be playing Mariachi Lite mixing with Morris doing his Passion set… so LOTS of expressive music to enjoy…

See here for all the details of Thank Friday It’s Freestyle!

Then the first weekend in February, we are back in Scotland again for our bi-monthly tea dance and workshop in Rosyth. This workshop is entitled “Momentous Moves” and CJ & Pauline “Cheeks” Roddy will be focusing on nice moves which will help express “moments” in the music.

There’s nothing worse than knowing a really nice moment is coming up in the music, getting all prepared then hearing it go “woosh” as it passes you and your partner!! Well, this workshop is going to tool you up with lots of moves and variations to ensure that both follows and leads can pick the right move for the moment, then milk every single drop of musicality and style…

Once again there is an early bird special if you book before the 1st of Feb

Pauline has an extensive background in dance starting with tap and ballet as a child, followed by Modern Jive, Ballroom, Argentine Tango and most recently West Coast Swing. Since starting Modern Jive 6 years ago she has been in numerous cabaret performances in Scotland and competed around the country. In addition to cabarets she has won and placed in a number of competitions so brings a wealth of knowledge that you won’t want to miss out on in this workshop.

See here for all the details of our Momentous Moves workshop

6pm the tea dance begins… more tea/coffee/cake and biccies than U can shake a stick at… generally a more chilled laid back Mariachi experience… lots of LOVELY dancers from all over Scotland… oh, and the on the hour experimental track too!!

See here for all the details of our Feb Mariachi Tea Dance

As we aim to gender balance for both the tea dance and workshop to secure your place email us at bookings@mariachi.info

Look forward to seeing you on a dance floor soon!!!

PS mark 3 & 4 April in your diaries as we are working on plans for Extra Easter Fun with some VERY special guests. ;)
