Mariachi Music

What makes a ‘Mariachi’ tune??

A track that is driven by guitars is an easy one: examples would be “Sweet Child O’ Mine” or “The Passenger” or even Bob Sinclair’s “Love Generation.”

When it comes to other tunes, it comes down to the guitar having a prominent part: somewhere you could dance, or sing, to what the guitar is doing. Examples would be Alacran’s “Reflejo La Luna” which has a beautiful spanish guitar lick through the song. There are lots of examples of tracks that aren’t specifically guitar tracks, but have a great guitar solo that is really expressive and that you can dance to. Examples being “Sweat” and “The Same Love That Made Me Laugh.”

Another kind of track we play would be cover versions of other tunes done in guitar. An example of this would be “Tango to Evora” by Notis Mavroudis and Panagiotis Margaris.
